Hmm.  Interesting.  I'll have to do more experiments.  Maybe after the
holidays, someone will drop in who knows more about the way metadata
lookups are handled.  Seems to me like a subtle bug has been
uncovered.

It's one thing for it to fail to support the format of the filename...
but it should fail gracefully... not make it worse.

Can anyone give an overview about how (and where) the metadata lookups
actually happen?
