I believe the audio is multiplexed on the TDMS pins with the video, I have two devices (a tv and a monitor) hanging off my main frontend, one connected to the hdmi port on the video card and the second connected to the dvi port on the same card, using a hdmi -> dvi adapter, both get audio over the hdmi lead.
So it's technically possible to supply digital audio over DVI, I can't comment on whether the Zortac does it or not, but it is feasible.
