Yes, EyeTV runs on a Mac host, and has to transcode everything. It keeps
around dual copies of all your recordings, one for streaming to iDevices
and AppleTV, one for EyeTV (or something like that), if you set it up to
do so, or it can do the transcode on-demand. It does have baked-in
support for doing the transcodes using the turbo.264 HD though (which
is made/sold by the same people as EyeTV). I actually have had the hw
transcoder stick for some time, and just bought a license for EyeTV a
few days ago myself to play with.
