At CES earlier this year Toshiba showed their initial glasses-less 3D
TVs. It worked reasonably well on the larger panels though field of
vision was fairly narrow. The smaller panels didn't work well for me.
They also showed a laptop with glasses-less 3D and where it used the
camera to track your facial position to adjust the view. This seemed to
work quite well for most people. The demo guy said they were trying to
get the laptop out by Christmas though I suspect he was speculating.
I expect it will be a few more years before any reasonable
implementation of glasses-less 3D will be truly available. But when they
do that then it should unlock 3D as a mainstream technology.
Until then passive seems to be the game. Apparently you will soon be
able to get a passive filter added to your normal glasses just like
anti-glare is today.
