[mythtv-users] 'mythtv is idle' and wont auto shutdown/suspend

i've just added a second mythtv pc; FE only, to my existing FE/BE setup that would suspend when left idle.
however, now when the FE-only machine shuts down (initiating 'shutdown' from the menu in mythfrontend) the BE still seems to think the FE-only machine is still connected.

restarting the 'mythbackend' process seens to clear the lock, but thats not very convenient!

i've been through mythtv-setup on the BE, and confirmed things are setup ok; everything points to the LAN IP of the BE (rather than 127.0.0.1), and the shutdown schedule is also setup the way i left it.
other than this issue, everything appears to be working fine!

thanks for any help
