This is essentially true. VMWare is transitioning to bare metal 
virtualization based on vSphere. I've been running VMWare server on top 
of CentOS for years now with Mythtv adjacent to other guests. It has 
been very reliable and really simple to manage.

I have been testing vSphere as part of transitioning my setup. to that. 
The testing has been going very well so far and I may transition later 
this spring. vSphere is also free.
