I'm the OP;  I use fixes/0.24 git;  the installed version was current as of april 4th.
I just pulled the latest'n'greatest and see a lot of work, for example mythtv/libs/libmythtv/tv_play.cpp.

I'll have it installed momentarily and will post logfiles if I still have problems.
