Indeed, SSDs make huge difference. I can compare them on the same machine,
sustained write speed:
SSD (OCZ Agility 2) - 267MB/s
HDD RAID0 (2xWD Caviar Black) - 155MB/s
HDD RAID1(2xWD Caviar Black) - 144MB/s
