I think a "rental" is an agreement to license the content for a specified period of time. The time shifting language 
applicable to broadcasts does not apply, since a specific time period for viewing has been stipulated by both parties.

In the case of Netflix, where you can keep the disk for as long as you like, you are receiving your next disk while still 
holding the content from the first, so I understand their problem with it.

But this is probably an inappropriate topic for here in any case.
