Depends on how much HD you have going over your network. OTA HD is at most 19 Mb/sec, I think QAM over cable can get as high as
40 Mb/sec. Get several HDHomeRuns running recordings and several remote front ends watching recordings and you may find gigabit
networking helpful.

A front end only box should be able to get away with 100 megabit though.
