[mythtv-users] Do GeForce GT220s run hot? Was rebooting my system on anything above VDAPUA slim.

nVidia should know I guess, but personally I would try to find some way to get it to run cooler. The general rule with 
electronics is cooler is better, and, as is said, "It couldn't hurt".

To a point of course, you don't want thermal cracks in the plastic or ceramic packaging from taking to down to -100C. Of 
course it's usually the *change* in temperature that cracks things, if you change very slowly you are less prone to 
problems.

Temperature stability is important, repeated heating and cooling cycles are not good, and can lead to chips migrating out 
of sockets, and broken internal connections.

85° C or more is just too hot IMHO, unless you are talking about high-power vacuum tubes, even then it's pretty hot, 
except of course  the cathode itself. 

I wonder if the card makers are willing to sacrifice longevity for "fanless".

But I guess the ultimate test is, does it work? I guess the worst thing is you have to buy a new card, and they are 
relatively cheap these days.
