Way over my head at the moment. All I can tell you is that I re-installed using the generic driver because if I tried using any of the nvidia drivers upon installation, I had the 'Display' problem which prevented X from starting. 

Just a while ago, I rebooted using my PAE kernel, then installed some nvidia drivers and that's it so far.
