How about taking a step back.  Let's see if the problem is the source, 
or MythTV.  Try "cat /dev/video0 > testfile", let it go for several 
seconds, then hit Ctrl-C to stop it.  Then try playing the resulting 
file with mplayer or VLC or whatever.
