I think I understand that you are not looking to do recording at all,
just update your EPG info...

Why not just set one of your tuners to use active EIT in the tuner
setup. Whenever the tuner is free it'll go of and pick up the EIT from
each of the multiplexes.

youre quite right that passive eit is collected while a tuner is tuned
into a particular multiplex, but active eit does the epg update for
you...
