Do you have your antenna:
-mounted outdoors
-as high as possible
-properly aimed for the transmitters you want to receive from?

Do you have good quality RG-6 cabling between your antenna and tuner, as short as possible, with as few splits and connections as necessary?

What does antennaweb.org recommend for your location?

If you are determined to go ahead with an amp, a pre-amp (attached directly at the antenna) is generally far superior to a distribution amp (attached somewhere further into your house). Channel Master makes a couple of preamps (7777 and 7778) that are very highly regarded. The key is noise: you want to add the minimum of noise so that it doesn't mask the signal that your tuner wants to decode. I'm not familiar with Motorola gear.
