Well in that case, both solutions are OK. I just prefer the fact that I
can split the DAC conversion and the amp part by using a sound card;
putting several external DACs being even better but not really practical
especially for the sync problems that could arise as I dont know of any
external DACs with 8 channels, at least at reasonnable price.
So for me (and I understand people thinking differently ;-) the discrete
sound card bring alot of quality to the table a t reasonable price and
flexibility; for example my amp for now is a class D amp I bought for
around $200 which sounds much better than alot of much more expensive
receiver.
