CPU activity wasn't high, maybe some strange interaction within the Nvidia blob? Have since upgraded Nvidia drivers and two builds of 0.24-fixes so not much chance (or point) of reproducing it.

Additionally the very irritating AC3 downmix flipping on and off at format changes and glitches problem that I've been getting throughout 0.23 seems to have gone completely with 0.24, would have expected to have heard it a couple of dozen times by now. In fact that's what got me to upgrade to 0.24 so early in the release, I was hoping for that to be fixed.
