well, i finally figured out what the issue was. it turns out that the setting enabling internal control of the volume was somehow enabled, and despite the fact that the arrow keys were not mapped to any volume control myth thought they were. additionally, disabling this option has also gotten rid of the issue where myth was automatically increasing the volume when i started to view a recording.

Subject: strange volume issues

i'm running myth 0.23.1 on debian based mepis.

until this week everything has been rock solid. however, this week i noticed a strange issue with volume during playback. when i start playing back a recorded show the volume is automatically increased, regardless of what i had the volume set to. for instance, i can set the volume to 42% but this will jump up to over 60% when playback begins.

also, when i try and use the arrow keys to fast forward or fast reverse through a recording the volume increases.

i checked the keybindings and the arrow keys are not listed in any of the volume control entries. i also checked my system's keyboard settings and the arrow keys are not assigned to any volume control. if it matters, i have a logitech s520 wireless keyboard

the only change i've made was that i no longer run artsd, and i stopped that because i was running into issues with the sound system croaking - seemed to happen if i had forgotten to close the mythfrontend and left it running idle for a long time.

if there is a way to nuke the keybindings and simply reset to the default, i'm ok with that - haven't made any changes that i care about.

tia.
