[mythtv-users] "deleting UPnP client" hung

Some mythtv installs seem to just fall into place and with others
you fight for hours.
This ( lucid ) one never even starts, it hangs at  "deleting UPnP client".
This is after several install/remove cycles trying both mtthbuntu and mythtv.
It is a completely new 10.4 install from a total disk wipe.
The problem previous to this was the dreaded "can not connect to database"
and no UPnP clients found.
