Just found the solution!!
I'll share it with the list for future reference...
I was playing around with the settings when I saw a new OSD theme I had
installed when I upgraded, the Glass-OSD. It turns out the problem is caused
by this theme. I changed the OSD theme and everything is working fine now!

Check "Setup -> TV Settings -> General" and look for the option "Change
channels immediately without select" on the first page. If it is enabled,
disable it. This should permit entering substrings of longer channel numbers
that are themselves valid channel numbers in their own right.
