No. The broadcaster may not transmit h.264, because none of their
installed hardware supports decoding h.264. Technically they could, but
it would be fruitless, as no one would be able to watch it. The
argument is moot anyway, as the OP thought advances in the ffmpeg
decoder used by MythTV would have any effect on the resultant file size.

Also wrong. While the HVR-2250 does physically support analog capture,
the linux drivers do not. As far as MythTV is concerned, that card is
digital only.
