Hi.

I wouldn't worry too much about the quality of an audio card when it
comes to digital audio...

Just take one that is known to be supported in linux ; you won't
notice a difference in audio quality between one or another.

Are you sure your motherboard doesn't have a SPDIF output ?
Often they have a 3 pins connector on the motherboard which is SPDIF out...

I haven't seen a motherboard without a spdif port in almost 5 years...
