Actually, I'm using 0.23 fixes (slightly prior to the official release) 
without any extra patches and livetv is quite stable.  The caveat to 
that is that you need to get the right sleep / pause in the channel 
change script.  And I run a modified version of the directv channel 
change that verifies with the box that it thinks the channel is changed 
before it returns to mythtv.  (I use a serial->usb cable for channel 
changing.)
