I found recently that if the resolution going to my TV didn't match
modes in some way (possibly to the native TV resolution I'm not sure),
there were may prebuffer waits occurring. I'm not sure if this was a
issue with the GPU being overloaded or a IO wait due to scaling or
something else with the video card. It's odd situation all around. My
TV/DFP's native resolution is 1368x768 and can accept a 1080I signals.
I'm connecting with a DVI to HDMI cable. I had specified 1920x1080 as a
video mode. But the video driver was changing it to 1280x720 and that's
what the TV showed. Anyhow... I found by adding a Option "TVStandard"
"HD1080i" to the card's device section of the xorg.conf file, almost all
the prebuffer issues went away and the TV now shows a resolution of
1920x1080i.
