I eventually reinstalled everything on my frontends. I had upgraded all my
ubuntu 9.10 machines to 10.04. My Zotac Ion machine failed and required a
complete re-install, my Core2Duo W/an 8400GS and on-board analog sound had
the volume problem, and my master backend/frontend upgraded without issue,
and still works fine. I put Mythbuntu 10.04 on both of my frontends, and
they've both worked quite well since. So I can't point to the exact issue,
but it seems I found a fix for my specific case. If all goes well, a
Mythbuntu frontend can be up and running in an hour or two.
