I dont know the limits of port multipliers but you may well achieve
better performance by splitting your single raid into mutiple limiting
any given RAID to two disks per host-SATA-port. By looking at your
usage pattern, you could well find that this means you can split the
load well across these multiple RAIDs with good performance.
