Dan,
I have written the majority of the MythNetvision grabbers and did
not have ustream.tv on my list. After doing a very brief read of the
link you had in your email the part that would be of concern is:
"We limit the number of API requests to 5,000 per developer key per
day so that we can manage demand for the service to deliver the best
performance to our users. If you need a higher per day call limit, email
us at devsupport at ustream.TV."
The limit of 5,000 requests seems way too small. I have come across
what looked like a excellent site only to find out their limit was 10k
and in the end skipped them. They make comments on how the developer's
application can be effienient, but that cannot account for a large user
base. I do not have stats but if the user base was 100K and only 10%
used the grabber in a day with only one request you have already doubled
the daily quota.
If you still decide to create a grabber here are some comments:
1) When you acquire an API key please do it in the name of MythTV
specifically for the MythNetvision plug-in.
2) Give ustream.tv a heads up that MythTV has a very large user base
which depending on the popularity of the ustream.tv content could exceed
the 5K per day limit.
3) Forward a copy of the API key and the email you receive to me and I
will also send a copy to the MythNetvision developer (Robert McNamara).
We collect the API keys just in case someone leaves the project.
4) If you choose to write the ustream.tv grabber in python then examine
the existing grabbers and you will see a common structure which you can
copy and save a significant amount of development time.
Make sure to thoroughly read this wiki page as it has all the technical
requirements for a MythNetvision grabber.
