I suspect the OP's question was intended to ask whether MFE could be run 
in *nix, only without a window manager. I recall that it used to work in 
framebuffer mode, years ago, but support for that has been dropped.

If the goal is to save memory and CPU cycles by having a minimal 
footprint, I know many people use lightweight window managers like 
ratpoison for this reason.
