[mythtv-users] Starting recordings early and finishing late not working

I have set recordings to start 300 secs early and finish 600 secs late 
in both places I could find in the front end menus. The main one was at 
Setup->TV->General, and I changed "Time to record before start of show" 
and "Time to record past end of show."

I also changed the setting for new recording rules, but I don't think I 
have any of those and don't know where to set them.

Programmes don't seem to be starting to record early - we're losing the 
first few minutes/seconds. However, we do seem to have the 10 minute 
buffer on the end.

Where should I be setting this?  I'm using the mythbuntu wide theme, if 
that makes a difference. I'm not suspending or sleeping the backend, at 
least not deliberately.

Things to note - everything should have started five mins early, but 
actually started five mins late. There are repeated entries with zeros 
in the times, which I *think* these go in when my wife hits record in 
the guide but the record icon doesn't appear. She just keeps hitting 
record until it does.
