Yeah, that's why I went to the local comcast office and picked up my HD box
instead of having a tech come round and install it.

The guy there had no idea what firewire or IEEE-1394 was, but at least I
could look at the back of the box and say "That's it right there" before
taking it home.

Also, I found out when I originally moved to this house and had the comcast
tech install the cable modem and SD boxes that the techs only have certain
boxes available to them and so don't necessarily have a choice.  I had been
using quite large SD boxes with a serial port to change channels, and the
new ones were smaller with no serial port.  Again, I was able to take the
box into the local office and exchange for one of the older ones with a
serial port.
