OK, and re-modprob()ed lirc_serial

bnl at ibm:~$ lsmod | grep serial

lirc_dev               10804  1 lirc_serial
bnl at ibm:~$ sudo rmmod lirc_serial
bnl at ibm:~$ sudo rmmod lirc_dev
bnl at ibm:~$ lsmod | grep serial
bnl at ibm:~$ sudo setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart none
bnl at ibm:~$ sudo setserial /dev/ttyS1 uart none
bnl at ibm:~$ sudo modprobe lirc_serial

Unfortuantly, still nothing from irrecord.
I can keep it from the 10 sec timeout, by pressing he remote, but nothing
appears on screen...
mode2 still works as it should

> Also, where are your setserial commands to release the serial port defined?

Thanks for the ideas.
