Damnit.  :-)  I mis-read the UI there.  I thought that whole upper box:

GUI:           Video Output:           Rate:          Aspect:

was solely describing the UI, so I set it to the max, 60Hz (higher
refresh for GUIs is always good).  Only after taking another look at it
did/do I realize that the Rate: was for both the gui and video output.

Changed it to Any and now it works wonderfully.  Interesting how the
rate stays at whatever the last video was when it returns to the GUI
though.
