[mythtv-users] Feature request: Detect existence of closed captioning

0.23 detects recordings' format so themes can identify them as 720p or
1080i. Can this sort of functionality be extended?

For example, HD-PVR recordings currently don't have closed captions
regardless of what the SchedulesDirect listings data says, so the "CC"
icon that themes display isn't accurate in such cases. Can the
existence of ATSC or VBI (or the European teletext captions) be
detected during recording and the metadata adjusted accordingly? Some
of this functionality must exist within MythTV already, as
mythfrontend's OSD only displays "Select ATSC CC" if ATSC captions
exist. (The OSD menu displays "Select VBI CC" regardless of whether
such captions exist, which I suppose is reporting a longstanding bug
rather than a feature.)
