[mythtv-users] Another surround audio problem (analogue)

Hi all,

I apologise now if this question has been asked/answered before, but I
have spent a week now googling and testing various things to no avail.

I am running MythTV 0.23 (Mythbuntu 10.04), and everything is fine
providing I just want stereo audio. I have an onboard nVidia chipset
audio card that is capable of 5.1 surround, however nothing I try will
make this thing work.

I will be clear now - I am using good ol' analogue here - no external
amp, just speakers plugged into three of the jack outputs on the back
of the system.

Using "Alsa:Default" and "Stereo" settings work ok - stereo sound
Using "Alsa:Default" and "5.1" settings - nothing
Using "Alsa:Surround51" and "5.1" settings - nothing
Using "Alsa:Surround51" and "Stereo" settings - nothing.

I have been through all the other options presented in the audio
output device, but still nothing.

In all cases, "Dolby Digital" and "DTS" are unchecked. I am using both
a known 5.1 recording as well as standard stereo TV recordings to
test.

I know that alsa is correctly configured and the mixer is set as
"speaker-test -Dplug:surround51 -c6 -t wav" works exactly as it
should, identifying all the outputs one at a time. I just cannot for
the life of me get it working in MythTV. Am I flogging dead horse
here, or is there some magic I am missing?

Jay
