I already filled a bug for ALSA no longer compiling:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=610751

I will file another for the no sound through HDMI issue.

BTW as a temporary workaround I use the optical spdif out (which aplay
-l lists as a HDMI port) and have the HDMI out plugged into my TV
instead of my receiver. I now have DD en DTS working with mplayer and
stereo sound from MythTV. Somehow MytTV is not able to properly use the
same device as mplayer is using just fine. With mythtv I get audio
buffer errors.
