The TZ and /etc/localtime issue was observed on this thread a while
ago (http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/406613#406613).
Normally, accessing a file 70 times per second wouldn't cause a
problem, unless the file happens to be on NFS and you are running the
2.6.27 kernel. In any case, this has been pretty much put to rest by
some recent checkins by danielk.
