[mythtv-users] Display Generic Information on mythlcdserver

I have been experimenting with a VFD screen on my MythTV box and everything seems to work well except the "Display Generic Information", which does not seem to do anything and I could not find any documentation on what it is supposed to do. I even took a look at the source code, but couldn't figure what it should do.

What I ultimately would like to have is to have the same status message that is shown on mythwelcome to show on the VFD screen. The main reason for this is that I want to see if the backend is idle and preparing to shut down. I currently turn of the frontend and the TV with a universal remote and some times the frontend fails to quit, but there is no way to confirm this other than turning the TV back on.
