[mythtv-users] MythVideo 'playcommand' to turn subtitles on?

Hello,

A week or so ago I posted on this list regarding how cumbersome it is to display subtitles in MythVideo. For me at least, I have to dig down into the 'Playback OSD' menu and turn on the 'Always display captions' preference, then watch my video, and then go back and turn that preference off (if I remember). If not, it displays captions on everything else until I go in and turn that setting off. I have come up with an idea (a very hackish idea) to run an sql command to set the preference, then the internal player command, and then another sql command to reset the preference. To make it seamless (at least until the whole subtitles issue is addressed), you could use the custom playcommand feature of MythVideo to do this. Anyone out there think this is possible? If possible, I will spend the time figuring out the exact mysql command for this (should be pretty simple). Would the command read something like: "mysql command; Internal; mysql command2"?

On a related note (and I'm not being critical here, just curious), does anyone know if better subtitles support is being worked on? It seems like there are a lot of more obscure features that get a ton of attention, while a core feature such as subtitles support is still lacking. Maybe I'm the only one that watches movies with subtitles?

Nick
