I've been connecting via VGA. Initially to a CRT monitor and just last few
days to my Sony TV (Sony 26U2000 it has VGA and HDMI). Fading is the same on
both.
Incidentally, I tested a scheduled recording today - completed fine and
played back etc no problem, though I did have some fading to b&w navigating
on the menus before playback. Typically it is only fading out for less than
a minute each time, but seems to do it quite often (eg use for 30 secs, fade
out for 30 sec etc).
Video card is built into motherboard - GeForce 8300, NVidia drivers etc. TV
is fine when connected to laptop using same VGA lead, though running XP.

(Just for info, I have tried HDMI - was ok on 1280x720 (with a little
overscan), 1920×1080 was ok for TV, but text not very clear and more
overscan problems. Think my TV might have some hidden options to deal with
overscan which I will investigate).
