Answering my own question somewhat... I noticed that there was a
"1080i" icon next to some programs when I looked at the listing of
recorded programs via my frontend.  I had originally asked the
question when I was viewing my list of recorded programs through the
web interface.

I don't mind using ffmpeg from the command line either.  I just need
to figure out how to decode the filenames, which I'm certain my buddy
Google can tell me.
