The rpm version dist tag still has a c for rpm versioning reasons --
'f7' is rpm-older than 'fc6'. The distro is indeed simply called
'Fedora' now. Just cat /etc/fedora-release to see for yourself.

Quite frankly, if you don't want to be bothered by upgrades, you're
running the wrong distribution. And if your firewire setup doesn't
work, nobody is likely to be able to help you much. But good luck.
