Except there you didn't use VDPAU hardware decoding ...
You must define which vdpau decoder to use
like -vc ffh264vdpau,ffmpeg12vdpau,ffwmv3vdpau,ffvc1vdpau,

No evidence of using VDPAU here either.

There's no reason a pre-G98 wouldn't be able to be used for VDPAU ;
only issues with myth is maybe not enough memory. MythTV has a much
higher GPu RAM requirements than mplayer thanks to its more advanced
menu system and OSD.
The advantage of the newer 8400gs was VC1 decoding ; but this is a
non-issue these days as the newer drivers (since 180.44 I believe) the
drivers can do the decoding in software.
