This is not true.  The Storage Groups code is smart enough to know whether
two _directories_ are on the same _filesystem_/_partition_, but it is not
smart enough to know whether two _filesystems_/_partitions_ are on the same
_drive_.  Doing so would require way too much logic and be prone to error
because we'd have to make too many assumptions and in the case of remote
storage, it would be impossible to determine.
