I guess the real question is why do you need and/or want composite? It seems 
like you are spending a lot of time and trouble to get something that's not 
that great.

Smaller TV sets that accept something other than composite (VGA, DVI/HDMI, 
component) are getting cheaper, and the larger more expensive sets will show 
the problems with composite more than the smaller ones.

You are eventually going to move to something "better", so I wouldn't spend 
too much money and/or time on a short-lived inferior solution.

If you are feeding a CRT type set then being concerned about energy efficiency 
would seem to be irrelevant, since CRTs are such power hogs.
