Thank you for updating the page. But that is what I had tried with the modify/make/install. 

I know I am missing something that is due to my inexperience.

Hi Kris,

It looks to me like the HDPVR wiki page on the MythTV site had a
slight issue.  I've updated it to use what worked for me.  The
nutshell is that you only need v4l-dvb and you need to change hdpvr.h
and hdpvr-core.c.  See the wiki for details.  One other note, is that
I noticed that the HDPVR wouldn't record until I changed the audio
input.  It was using SPDIF but I only had the RCA in the back
connected.   To change that I used :

v4l2-ctl --set-audio-input 0
