I'm not doubting you John but I never know who to believe. When I had
problems with a 3-disk RAID1 using WD10EARS drives one of the reasons
I was directed to the RAID Edition 500GB drives was specifically
because they did support TLER. There was never another reason proposed
(that I remember) for that RAID not working correctly.

Whatever the reason I was completely unable to build a good RAID that
worked without delays using the WD10EARS. Possibly newer mdadm release
have solved this but if they have I haven't specically noticed any
discussion about it on the mdadm list which I am subscribed to.

I still have 4 or 5 of them sitting here. Should I spend the time to
see if they've become usable?
