Will try again later today and make sure about the libusb package first.

To answer question from previous e-mail about error message, there may
have been something(s) during the outputs from the three apt-get
commands, but there was so much going out on the terminal screen that
I didn't understand anyway I figured it would either work or it
wouldn't.  OTOH, when I tried "sudo dpkg -i", it threw a syntax error
and said I had to tell it what to install, so, like I said in my OP, I
tried "sudo dpkg -i lirc", which didn't work and I had no clue what to
do next.  Will see what happens after I try again after first checking
the libusb state before running the apt-get commands.  Will post back
when I have results.
