[mythtv-users] Slow database response and eventual catastrophic failure when using secondary backend

I have a secondary backend that I only switch on as needed for extra
tuners. However recently this has been causing catastrophic failure.
It starts with slow database access. Requests from mythweb take
several minutes as does mythfrontend. When it starts recording
everything appears to end in a heap both mythfrontend and mythweb stop
responding and nothing gets recorded.
