Not if the signal is encrypted. Which it is, or soon will be, for all
except a very few 'basic' channels (in my case that's all the channels I
can get OTA, plus just a few others like TBS and CSPAN, and some local
channels like government access and public access). For anything else,
you have to use one of the cable company boxes in one way or another.
This is why the cable companies are doing this; they don't WANT you to
use a computer tuner, they want to force you to rent their equipment.
Besides, if you want to record shows on your computer, you must be a
pirate, right?
