I really, really, really thank you.

Following your (latest) advice, I searched for MythDB.py and found a whole nest of them under old 2.5 and 2.6 lib64 python folders. (I guess that's what happens after multiple OS upgrades and following myth since 0.18 I think). They are not there any more! I uninstalled mythtv, cleaned them, and reinstalled the program to its previous /usr location. And now, after so much time, the correct entries appear in the metadata settings menu and I can grab film/episode info.
